Poetry: "747" and "Nobody's Fool"

Poetry: "747" and "Nobody's Fool"

"747"

7:47 and it's time to fly
If the damned thing crashes
Then you're gonna die
At the wake and funeral your
Friends will cry
That'll be the last time you'll be in the sky...

"Nobody's Fool"

He cheated on taxes
He cheated in school
He cheats on his girlfriends
He's nobody's fool
He cheated his lovers
He cheated his friends
He cheated all strangers
Up to his end

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Piranha 3-D"

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Piranha 3-D" Rated R for Blood and Gore, Profanity and Copious Nudity

Starring: Elisabeth "The Karate Kid" and "Leaving Las Vegas" Shue, Jerry "Stand By Me" O'Connell, Ving "Pulp Fiction" and "Dawn of the Dead" Rhames, Richard "Jaws" Dreyfuss, Christopher "Back To The Future" Lloyd, etc.

A Geologic event at Lake Victoria in Arizona brings hundreds of an ancient species of voracious piranhas eager to feast on drunken reveling college kids and scantily clad co-eds. In addition, a sleazy photographer (Jerry O'Connell) is in town to entice young women to flash their breasts and/or disrobe for the camera. Little does he know that these piranhas jeopardize his life and livelihood plus that of the models he exploits. Also, the so-called local "sandrat" son of the town sheriff agrees to work for the sleazy "wild wild girls" photographer when he is supposed to be watching his much younger siblings. His young brother and sister are also in danger if they get in the water. Not the greatest, but if you don't mind seeing almost constant nudity plus blood and gore; all in 3-D, this is a fun day or night at the movies.

Poetry: "Sigmund Fraud"

Sigmund Fraud
He's very flawed
The way he acts, he thinks he's God
Vacations a lot around Cape Cod
All he ever does is nod
And goes to bed in a sleeping pod

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "The Expendables"

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "The Expendables"

Starring: Barney (Sylvester "Rambo" Stallone), Christmas (Jason "The Transporter" Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Church (Bruce "Diehard" Willis), Arnold Scharzenegger, Mickey "Ironman 2" Roarke, Gunner (Dolph "Universal Soldier" Lundgren), Steve 'former pro wrestler' Austin, Eric Roberts, Etc.

The selling point of this film is that practically every action star of the last twenty some-odd years (except Mel Gibson, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Segal, among others) appears as a major character or as a cameo. The premise of this move is as follows: A group of commando mercenaries, led by Sylvester Stallone's character, accept international assignments as soldiers of fortune, where they shoot as many bullets as is possible at their foes. On one of their missions, the "Expendables" go to a backwards 3rd-world Spanish-speaking island run by a ruthless dictator funded by an equally ruthless American and cause quite a bit of mayhem . Predictably, at one point they get betrayed by one of their own. Also, they attempt to rescue a relative of the dictator, who may or may not want to be rescued. This movie was ok if you like action films, but a previous movie "The Losers" had a very similar storyline and was a much better movie (other than the unnecessary sideplot about a girl's soccer game).

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Inception"

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Inception"
Starring: Cobb (Leonardo "Titanic" Dicaprio) Joseph "Third Rock From the Sun" Gordon-Levitt, Ariadne Ellen "Juno" Page, Ken "The Last Samurai" Watanabe, Robert Fischer, Jr. (Cillian "28 Days Later" Murphy), Pete "The Usual Suspects" Postlethwaite, Michael Caine, etc.

An exiled widower, wanted in the States for the death of his wife, and his cohorts; make a living by illegally "extracting" information from people's dreams. One of his victims hires him to "implant" an idea in a young businessman, which is difficult and maybe impossible to do. "Implanting" an idea is potentially dangerous to both the dreamer and the dream thieves. Also, Cobb is haunted by his dead wife, who tends to appear in the subconscious both in his dreams and in the dreams of people he is hoping to "extract" information from. Sometimes she is violent, and subverts his dream thievery. This movie was at times a little hard to follow. Sometimes you didn't know a dream-state from reality, but in a movie like this that's a good thing. This movie had really impressive special effects and a great cast. I would see it again. It was well worth spending 2 1/2 hours seeing.

Poetry: "Beauty Is A Superficial Wound"

Poetry: "Beauty Is A Superficial Wound"

Beauty is a superficial wound
Which oft heals with age
Jealous suitors are filled with rage
Their violent actions wind them up in a cage
As time goes by, girls' good looks turn a page
As Shakespeare once said, "All the world's a stage..." (tbc?)

Poetry: "You Can't Out-Swim A Shark"

Poetry: "You Can't Out-Swim A Shark" A work in progress

You can't out-swim a shark
So don't enter water after dark
Dogfish cannot bark,
But Great Whites and Makos can kill on a lark.
And their serrated teeth leave a permanent mark.
If you see a Dorsal Fin,
Get out of the water! You cannot win.
If the water runs red,
Chances are, something is dead.
Don't take a chance. Dream about it in bed.
There's nothing wrong with fear.
Be wary in your SCUBA gear.
If a killer shark is near,
Its teeth and jaws can tear and shear.
And then you'll never drink another beer
Your friends and loved ones will shed some tears... (tbc?)

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Salt"

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Salt"
Starring: Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie), Liev "X-Men: Origins" Schreiber, Chiwetel "2012" Ejiofor, etc.

Loyal CIA agent Evelyn Salt goes on the lam after a Russian points her out as a "Russian spy". Moments later, Salt is on the run and uses all of her spy training to dodge bullets and a ruthless fellow spy (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who is determined to find her and kill her if necessary. Her only ally seems to be another fellow spy ( Liev Schreiber) plus her entomologist husband, who has gone missing. Although the plot and conspiracy are largely implausible, the nearly nonstop action and mayhem kept me on the edge of my seat. Arguably as good as or better than the "Bourne" movies, starring Matt Damon.

"Despicable Me" Animated
Starring: Gru ( Steve "The Office" Carell), etc.

Self-proclaimed "number one supervillain" Gru has been displaced by a young upstart named Vector, so with the help of dozens of "minions";he decides to steal the moon. Also, to get back at Vector, he adopts three young orphan girls, who can unwittingly help him sabotage Vector's impenetarable fortress. Against his expectations, the love he ends up feeling for "Margo, Edith and Agnes", his adopted daughters, ends up interfering with his nefarious plans. In spite of using freeze rays and other devices on unsuspecting people, it turns out Gru perhaps isn't such a bad guy after all. Mostly for kids, but I enjoyed it.
