Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Cyrus"

Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Cyrus" Rated R for language

Starring: John C. Reilly "Boogie Nights", (Molly)Marisa Tomei "My Cousin Vinnie", (Cyrus)Jonah Hill "Superbad", "Accepted", etc., Katherine Keener "The 40 Year Old Virgin"

A middle-aged divorcee (John C. Reilly), who has spent years alone feeling sorry for himself, reluctantly attends a party at his ex-wife's urging. While there, against the odds, the socially awkward guy manages to charm a beautiful woman with "his honesty" about his post-divorce loneliness. The sadsack divorcee finally is with the woman of his dreams, but she has a secret she tries to keep from him, her 22 year old son. When the divorcee finally meets the son, he seems like a nice guy. Before long though, the 20-something man-child does everything in his power to passive-aggressively try to sabotage his mother's new relationship. In addition, the son has a strange almost Oedipal closeness to his mom. John C. Reilly and award-winning actress Marisa Tomei are always excellent, but Jonah Hill is more than a little creepy; but is surprisingly good is his first serious role. This was a good movie, but it is an independent film with a non-traditional ending.
