Sci-Fi Bri's Movies: "Red Riding Hood" Rated PG-13

Dir: Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight") Characters/Actors: Valerie (Amanda "Jennifer's Body" Seyfried, Billy "Drive Angry" Burke, Virginia "TV's "Scoundrels" Madsen, Father Soloman (Gary "Bram Stoker's Dracula" Oldman, Grandma (Julie "Doctor Zhivago" Christie), Lukas Haas, Henry (?), Peter (?), etc.

Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) is an attractive, spirited girl in a medieval village plagued by a ruthless werewolf. Her fellow townspeople have up to now kept the wolf at bay by offering animal sacrifices. Unfortunately, the werewolf has started killing villagers again, including Val's younger sister. Meanwhile, the young lady has fallen for a boyhood friend who her parents don't approve of, while they arrange a marriage to another young man she does not love.
The villagers hire the services of a zealous werewolf hunter named Father Soloman (Gary Oldman). He is so ruthless that he holds everyone in the village under suspicion. As the moon turns "blood red", when a werewolf bite could curse a victim to become a werewolf instead of their demise; Valerie finds she can relate to the werewolf unlike other villagers. This could put her under suspicion for doing the Devil's work. Not only that, but she realizes that the wolf could very well be someone she knows, possibly even her beloved Grandmother (Julie Christie). What I liked most about this movie is it kept me in suspense about who the werewolf or wolves might be until just about the very end. The romantic aspects will appeal to the female audience and the horror aspects will appeal to the men.
